while going over this Sundays lesson I find that i have been looking at communion all wrong on the most part. I guess I was always hung up on who should take communion and how often.Paul tells us that we should take part in this often, but how often, some churches take communion quarterly some on special holidays some weekly our church takes it monthly . Is there such a thing as taking communion too much I don't think so if you remember why we take it in the first place.
We do this in remembrance of Christ how he died to set us free from sin and death. So who is worthy of partaking of communion? EVERYONE who is a true believer of Christ. As Christians it is our duty to partake of the Lords supper and we should take it as often as we can with respect and honor for the Lord who graciously laid down his life for us while we were yet sinners.
1 Corinthians 11:27
(Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.) Who is unworthy certainly not the believer? to understand this passage you have to read what was going on in the church at this time the early church had the Lords supper weekly and they always had like a pot luck dinner and the rich would always get there first and eat everything and got drunk on the wine and left nothing for the poor. this is my interpretation of this passage.
communion should not be taken lightly but with a clean heart and compassion.
communion is a reminder and if our church had communion every week I would be proud to participate.
Jesus wants us to remember never to forget the Gospel and can you think of a better way to remember then something simple as eating and drinking something we have to do every day.
